Print & Boat Museum
The Tomahawk Area Historical Society has created a 3 phase plan to expand and update our museum campus on East Washington Avenue.
Phase 1 will create an Antique Print Museum containing a rare operational Llnotype and other related equipment that would be found in a working letterpress print shop. This museum will be housed in an existing garage building already on the schoolhouse property. Work on this phase has already been started by replacing the old roof, clearing out the inside, and the removal of some invasive trees. We need to add electricity, remodel the interior, replace one garage door and remove two others, move and install the heavy equipment from Louie Heuser’s shop in Nokomis, and complete the historical displays, hopefully yet this summer.
Phase 2 will create a Boat Museum containing vintage boats from the former Tomahawk Boat Company. The plan is to have a new building constructed that will be adjacent to the print museum.
Phase 3 will include some remodeling / expansion to the existing schoolhouse museum that will provide needed storage space and meeting rooms.
Upon completion, we will have a very attractive and comprehensive museum complex that showcases Tomahawk’s proud history. Included now are the Old Kindergarten Museum, and the Log Museum, On Target boat and Locomotive displays in Washington Park.
We would like to thank those who have already supported this effort by supporting our shoe drive, brat fry events, financial donations and donations of time and material. We are now in the process of developing a fundraising plan to help meet our goals. And, we need your help.
Please mail your tax-deductible donation to: Tomahawk Area Historical Society, PO Box 655, Tomahawk, WI 54487. Put Print/Boat Museum in the memo line.
