Location of on line resources
These resources are available on line at one or both of these sites:
- The Internet Archives. This is a collection of a wide variety of copyright free material. Millions of works older than 1923 are included in the archives, as well as newer material where for one reason or another the copyright no longer applies (such as the author released it to the public domain).
- The Wisconsin Historical Society. The Wisconsin Historical Society provides a rich body of material on line. Some of it is copyright free, but use of the images are protected. For most people this is not an important fact, but worth noting.
1880 Census
In 1880 besides Jenny, the only towns in the county were Pine River, Corning and Rock Falls. Everything from Grandfather Falls north to the Michigan border was the Town of Rock Falls. The details of how the count was established are not spelled out by the census taker, but it appears as if he did a circuit from Grandfather up to King's, with a side trip to The Forks (Bouchard's). Note that his mission did not include counting the Ojibwe at Lac du Flambeau, even though they were in the Rock Falls jurisdiction. The following is a transcript, as best as can be read from the microfilm, of the census data.
